"Who's that?" I swear, that IS her pet phrase. How else would she be repeating it a gazillion times a day? Excuse #1: She's the new kid on the block Excuse #2: She needs time to memorize all the new faces, new names Excuse #3: All Caucasians look alike? Truth #1: Spitting out "Who's that?" every time someone walks by does not make her look any more diligent Truth #2: Entrapping the other person to repeat the same answer over and over again within the same hour only serve as ridicule
"Would you call me a cab?" She stared at him without so much as a muscle twitch on her long pale face. Then suddenly she came alive, as if someone flipped a switch. He watched as she scrambled, not for the phone. Her thin knobby fingers clawed frantically at empty air. Then someone flipped the switch again and she stops mid air. Her dead eyes found their way back to his face. Several centuries (seconds) later, he finally spoke up. "Never mind, I can get one for myself."
